Six nutrition tips

By looking through the window of an office or school classroom, looking at the calendar and evaluating our emotional and physical feelings, we understand that spring is already here. A really cold winter, less frequent physical activity, more frequent and fuller meals, as well as a festive time rich with a variety of tasty meals — all of this leaves an impact on our body. Nutritionist Inga Puce (Inga Pūce) has prepared six nutrition tips for spring, because each of us wants to look smart and feel healthy to discover the summer.

1. Clean the body.

With the onset of spring, we eventually see that we have gained extra kilos, the skin is no longer so elastic, we feel headache, constipation, joint pain, get ill more frequently... how can we cope with all of this? It all happens because our body is over-acidified during the winter. The body is able to get rid of alkaline substances on its own, but it is different with acidic substances, and we should help our body to clean it.

3. Involve family and friends — sprout grains.

According to nutritionists, sprouted grains are like a broth of life. In addition, sprouting grains at home is both easy and exciting when this task is completed together with children or friends. Choose high-quality seeds, sprinkle 100 grams of seeds with cold water and keep them in a jar for 24 hours. Then rinse them: put two layers of gauze on a jar, wrap an elastic band around the jar, pour the water out and scrub the gauze so that no water remains. Then keep the jar with the seeds in a place where there is a lot of light and wait for the seeds to germinate. Sprouted grains are used for delicious meals — with cottage cheese, kefir, bread, salads and any other meal according to your taste.

5. Water is the source of life.

In order to neutralise toxins in the body, drink a lot of water — 30 ml per 1 kg of body weight, so if you weigh 70 kg, then you need to drink about 2 litres of water per day. It is recommended to drink warm water instead of cold water. Boil the water and then cool it to the necessary temperature. Remember that boiled water is most beneficial for the body.

2. Mineral-rich vegetables will be your best friends.

In order for the body to get rid of acidic substances, it is necessary to eat products that are rich in minerals, such as vegetables — the darker the green colour, the better. Cook roots (carrots, turnips, beetroot), but it is better for them to be heat-treated, because after the winter the digestive system is weakened and fresh roots may be too much for it. Currently, various green cocktails or so-called “smoothies” are trending. Here you can freely use your imagination by combining herbs, vegetables, adding kefir or buttermilk to your cocktails — it will be a nutritious meal, as well as all the necessary minerals will be absorbed.

4. Maple and birch syrup time.

Spring is really unique as we have the opportunity to get valuable minerals from nature by drinking maple and birch syrup. Birch syrup is particularly rich in minerals, so use it as much as you can and rinse your body out. Juices such as birch syrup should be used fresh, not acidified.

6. Eat warm food.

During the winter, people tend to eat warm food, so do not shock your body and allow it to adapt to the new conditions gradually — continue to eat warm food, such as soups, porridge, stews, etc.

Nutritionists invite everyone to dedicate spring to cleaning the body and promoting the well-being of our stomachs and other organs, so that the beautiful summer can begin with a healthy and happy mind! We should also not forget about physical activities — let’s go to explore nature with our family, take a dog for a walk, measure how much time it takes to get to work or school on foot or riding a bicycle. If you walk 5 km once a week — it’s also good!
